Police intelligence operatives confiscated six firearms from a suspected gunrunner, who was arrested yesterday in Purok Doldol, Brgy. 2, Sagay City.
A team of intelligence operatives of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headed SPO1 Junji Liba and assisted by the Sagay police intercepted and arrested Vivencio Ilalim, 47, an amputee, who is allegedly engaged in gun-running activities at about 1 a.m. yesterday.
Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief, said the arrest of Ilalim yielded six homemade 357 magnum revolvers and three live ammunition for a .38 caliber revolver.
Investigations by the Sagay police showed that Ilalim, before his arrest, was instrumental in the apprehension of another suspected gunrunner, whose arrest in Sagay City, had yielded four unlicensed firearms.
Gutierrez said the confiscated guns were purchased by Ilalim, alias “Kumpol,” from Cebu reportedly at P1,500 each, and being sold to buyers at P3,000.
Liba said Ilalim had been under surveillance for more than two weeks, and had disposed 12 guns, before his arrest.
Upon his arrival at the Danao Port in Escalante City, at past midnight Sunday, Ilalim was trailed by a police intelligence operative, until he reached Sagay City.
Upon noticing that he was being trailed, Ilalim tried to escape. But he was later cornered by pursuing policemen, leading to his arrest and the recovery of a bag, that contained the six revolvers, Liba said. * GPB
