Silay to hold fire safety
drill, lectures in brgys.
Lectures on fire safety, basic life support and first aid will be conducted by the Silay City Fire Station in barangays Mambulac, Guinhalaran, Lantad and Brgy 2, on March 7, 12, 19 and 26, respectively, a press release from the city said.
A fire drill will also be held at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital on March 8 to teach the people how to prevent fires and avoid death or damage to properties.
The 3rd Provincial Fire Olympics is also scheduled at SM City Bacolod on March 16, to test the skills of fire stations in Negros Occidental. The Silay Fire Station was the first champion of said event, the press release said.
The station has 10 personnel and 30 volunteers. Vince Aldeguer, OIC fire chief, is asking the public to be more vigilant, especially on fire prevention, the press release added.*

Population Office continues
responsible parenting class
The class on responsible parenting and family planning is continuously being conducted on young couples in barangays in Bacolod City, a press release from the Bacolod City Population Office said.
As of last month, 44 RP-FP classes were conducted and attended by 1, 050 couples, the press release said.
The class is a component of the Population Management Program, that aims to improve the quality of life through rational population growth balanced with providing people with resource requirements.
The Population Office is also conducting pre-marriage counseling every Tuesday and Thursday at the Masskara Hall of the Bacolod Government Center, from 8:30- 11 a.m. and 1-4p.m.
Gilnena Flor Lozada, population program officer IV, said the counseling is required by Presidential Decree 965 stating that couples applying for marriage licenses should undergo orientation on family planning and responsible parenthood.
Last year, the City Population Office conducted 104 pre-marriage counseling for 1,193 couples, the press release added*

The Iglesia Filipina Independiente officials are gathered in Bago City, Negros Occidental, for their 12th executive commission meeting that ends tomorrow, to discuss the life and ministry of the Church in line with the situations transpiring locally and nationally, a press release from the sect said.
It added that IFI will announce its stance on the unabated extrajudicial killings and other human rights violations; the Aquino administration’s financial support to the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade ; the “midnight” deployment of US troops to the Philippines; and the massive and irreversible ecological destructions, that is legally allowed through the Mining Act of 1995.
Members of the executive commission, headed by Rev. Ephraim Fajutagana, and other IFI bishops, priests, and faithful, will also hold a press conference at the Parish of San Sebastian in Bacolod City, at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
A lightning rally will then be held, from the IFI Parish to the Capitol lagoon, with other progressive sectors, in observance of the Women Liberation Day, the press release added.*
