Drugs raps filed vs. 2 men
Charges for illegal drugs use and possession were filed against two men by the Binalbagan police at the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutor’s Office yesterday and Tuesday.
Senior Insp. Albert Sy, town police chief, said the charges were filed against Albert Alamis, 19, of Sitio Lamawan in Brgy. Santo Rosario; and Cesar Penalba , “alias Rekong”, 31, of Brgy. Marina, all of Binalbagan.
Alamis, who is also facing a charge for illegal gun possession, tested positive for marijuana, as shows by the drug test conducted by Chief Insp. Jerome Paul Fuentispina of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office crime laboratory, Sy added.
He was nabbed at about 7:55 p.m. at Magallanes Street, Binalbagan, while policemen were conducting visibility operation. Seized from Alamis were 13 sticks of marijuana cigarets and a 5.56 caliber revolver, police records show.
Penalba, meanwhile, was charged Tuesday. Policemen seized several sachets of suspected shabu from him during a raid on his house, Sy said.
He also tested positive for illegal drugs use based on the examination conducted by the NOPPO crime laboratory.
Alamis and Penalba will be transferred to the Binalbagan town Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Sy added.*APN
Members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group will attend a seminar initiated by the Dangerous Drugs Board and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, in Iloilo City, from July 10 to 12.
The seminar aims to improve the prosecution of illegal drug cases in the Western Visayas, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, CAIDSTOG chief, said yesterday.
He said many drug cases are being dismissed by the courts due to technicalities, and that anti-drugs operatives are also reprimanded, mostly for the improper handling or transporting of evidences recovered during raids and drug busts.
The seminar will brief policemen on how to avoid such instances, Rapiz said.
He added that even if CAIDSTOG has been named top performer in anti-illegal drugs operations in the Western Visayas, there is need for members to attend the PDEA seminar to improve their capability.*APN
