The 10-hectare Bais Family Farm School in Sitio Cantugot, Barangay Sab-ahan, in Bais City, was renamed as Inday Pita Teves Escano Education training center and is now under the La Consolacion College-Bais Campus.
Former Vice-Governor Mariant Escano-Villegas and Col. Alexander Escano of the Meralco Foundation Inc., presented school documents, facilities and transportation equipment to Sister Carmelli Catan, president of La Consolacion College-Bais Campus, recently.
The campus will become an agricultural college focusing on developing and enhancing the skills of students towards the different aspect of agriculture. The business side of agriculture will also be taught to the students so they will learn to venture into agri-business. The school will operate, in cooperation with the Technical Skills Development Authority.
The BFFS was then managed by the MFI and the Escano family, who owns the school property. It was run as an agricultural high school exclusive for boys since 1996.
Villegas said they agreed to transfer the management of the school to LCC because the family believes that the community needs a tertiary school that will focus on agriculture.
She said they are thankful that LCC accepted the challenge by offering a degree on agriculture, adding that the school will remain important to her family, especially because it is named after her mother, Inday Pita Escano.
Col. Escano said they will donate an additional 40 hectares for the school to be used as a demo farm. He added that the Commission on Higher Education requires, at least, a 50-hectare land area before the school can be accredited as an agricultural college.*MA
