| Motorcycle-riding ‘snatchers’
arrested in police operation
Two suspected snatchers riding in tandem on a motorcycle were arrested in a follow-up operation at a restaurant in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City, Thursday, after they allegedly victimized a call center agent.
Rocky Lopez, 30, of Mt. Carmel Street, and Kenneth Rehales, 28, both of Regent Pearl Homes Subdivision in Brgy. Alijis, were nabbed by operatives of the BCPO Investigation Branch, at about 2 p.m. while dining at the Apollo Restaurant at Lopue’s East mall, on the complaint of call center agent Flordelita Makilan, 28, of Roxas Avenue in Brgy. 39, Bacolod.
Makilan, employed by Transcom call center, said that she had just alighted from a passenger jeepney at about 1 p.m. Thursday at Roxas Avenue, when the suspects, who were on their motorcycle, passed by, and one of them grabbed her bag.
Makilan said she saw the suspects flee on their motorcycle but failed to shout for help because she was rooted in shock. She later went to Police Station 1 and identified them through the Rogues’ Gallery.
The police said that Lopez and Rehales admitted the crime and said they threw Makilan’s bag in a vacant area at Fortune Towne Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania.
The bag that contained Makilan’s identification cards was recovered but the victim said her cellular phone was gone.
Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, city police director, said they are also investigating whether Lopez and Rehales are behind the snatching incident involving Riem Love Villaflor Anquillano, a nursing graduate, at 17th Street, Bacolod, November last year.
Anquillano, 22, of Escalante City, Negros Occidental, died in the hospital from head injuries sustained when she fell to the pavement while trying to prevent the snatchers from taking her bag, police records show.
Meanwhile, Monjune Delfin, 29, of Abada Escay in Brgy. Granada, Bacolod, was arrested by Police Officers 1 John Lamis and Juice Lou Jimenez, at the junction of Rizal and Gatuslao Streets on the complaint of Luzviminda de los Reyes, 61, of Purok Greenfield in Brgy. Tangub.
De los Reyes claimed that she was on board a passenger jeep at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, when Delfin stole her P2,500 in cash that was in the right pocket of her pants, and alighted from the vehicle.
Delfin said he was forced to steal as he needed money for the school needs of his four children.
Delfin, Rehales and Lopez are now detained at the lockup cell of Police Station 1 and theft charges will be filed against them, the police said.*APN

Couple nabbed
in drug bust
A couple and their friend were apprehended by members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group at about 4 p.m. yesterday in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod.
CAIDSTOG chief, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, identified those arrested as Rodrigo Adorio, 25; Roberto Parcon, 29; and his live-in partner, Cheryl Delfin, 27; all residents of Purok San Roque in Brgy. Handumanan.
Rapiz said they arrested Adorio after he handed a small plastic sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer, in exchange for P200. He added that Adorio then told them that he got the shabu from Parcon and Delfin, and this led to the arrest of the couple.
Rapiz said they recovered two more small plastic sachets of the banned substance from the couple during their arrest.
CAIDSTOG has already arrested 18 persons involved in illegal drugs in the series of drug bust operations conducted this week, police records show.
Adorio, Parcon and Delfin are now detained at the lockup cell of the Bacolod City Police headquarters.*APN
