The 602ndSquadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary was awarded Best Performing Squadron of the year during the annual gathering of PCGA in Dumaguete City recently.
PCGA is a volunteer rescue group supervised by the Philippine Coast Guard, a press release from the squadron said.
The award plaque was signed by Vice Admiral Higinio Mendoza, Jr., national director of PCGA was in recognition of the Squadron’s exemplary service to the country and community, the press release said.
The 602ndSquadron covering the 10 divisions from north to south of Negros Occidental is led by Capt. Elizabeth Orola-Salabas as director.
PCGA has been involved in rescue operations in time of calamity and emergency, the press release said.
Meanwhile, Salabas was elected District Auxiliary Director of PCGA Western Visayas District and is the first woman to lead the male-dominated organization in the region, it also said.
She will be installed during the PCGA Visayan Summit on June 15-17, 2012 to be held at VMA Global College Gym with Vice Admiral Edmund Tan of the organic Philippine Coast Guard as guest speaker.
Expected to attend are various divisions and squadrons of PCGA all over the country, comprised of volunteers committed to save lives and properties during calamities.*CGS
