Nietes defends title
today vs. Salguero

Negrense Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will defend his WBO light flyweight title today against Mexican challenger Felipe Salguero in “Pinoy Pride XIV” boxing spectacle starting 6 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre, Resorts World in Manila.

In yesterday’s official weigh-in held at Robinson’s Galleria, both fighters stepped in at the division limit of 108 pounds and posed for photo ops before sports scribes.

When he arrived in Manila last Monday, Salguero said he came to the Philippines to win, adding that he saw Nietes in action on August 14, 2010 during his WBO miniweight title defense fight in Guasave, Mexio against Mario Rodriguez. The Murcia-born champion successfully kept his title then by unanimous decision.
