Howard remains with Magic,
Allen, Lewis move to Miami

Dwight Howard will not be leaving the Orlando Magic for the Brooklyn Nets but Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis joined the NBA champion Miami Heat yesterday as a signing moratorium ended.

After days of reports and rumors, clubs could finally make official moves and many of them did, but the biggest talent on the potential dealing block, All-Star center Howard, stayed with the Magic.

Talks of a four-team trade deal collapsed when Magic general manager Rob Hennigan ruled out a transfer to the Nets, Howard's preferred destination.

Britain to deploy
3,500 more troops

Britain will deploy an extra 3,500 troops at the London Olympics after a private security firm said it could not provide sufficient guards, the defense minister confirmed yesterday.

Philip Hammond said the interior ministry requested the move after private contractor G4S could not fulfil its commitment to provide the necessary number of trained staff for the Games, which officially open on July 27.

The deployment, which means 17,000 troops will now be involved in the Olympics, would impose an extra burden on the armed forces over the British summer holiday season, but was "prudent" to ensure security, Hammond said.
