The 2012 MassKara Festival logo was formally unveiled last night by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and other city officials at the fountain area of the Bacolod City Government Center.
MassKara Festival Director Ely Tajanlangit said this year’s logo is more unique and exciting than that of the previous ones as it was designed not only by one but nine budding artists in Bacolod.
Tajanlangit said this year’s festival logo is a statement of Bacolod’s vibrant, dynamic and thriving art scene and also captures the tourism attractions of the city.
Artists Emilio Montelibano, Susanito Samate, Claudine Joyce Ballesteros, J.R. Dellava, Guenievere Decena, Hilario Campos III, Roderick Tijing and Peter James Fantilago were each assigned a letter from the word “MASSKARA” to design, while Daryl Anthony Jimenea put all the artworks together through computer digital works.
The designs in each letter depict this year’s festival theme, which is “Life is Good in Bacolod”, Tajanlangit said.
The letter “M” has a picture of a Doña and a scada on it, which signifies unity despite stature of life; “A” has a tall building and a carabao, symbolizing urban and rural icons; the first “S” has a roll of film since there are a lot of filmmakers, both mainstream and independent, who came from the city; the second “S” has the bandstand of the city’s public plaza and fireworks drawing to showcase how fun the festivals are celebrated here, Tajanlangit also said.
The letter “K” has a drawing of people and there’s a mask in the center to show that Bacoleños are united by the MassKara festival; “A” also showcases other festivals in Bacolod; “R” speaks of the “royal” life in the city; and the last “A” depicts the image of two children, which means a bright future ahead for Bacolod, Tajanlangit added.
Leonardia said they want to further boost the popularity of MassKara not only nationwide but worldwide. He said he is happy because the unveiling of the logo coincided with his birthday.
He said that MassKara has evolved from a mere festival to an icon and that Bacoleños can expect a grander one this year as he finishes his last term as Mayor of the City of Smiles.
GMA talents Jaya, Ryza Cenon, Mike Tan and Mark Bautista also joined the logo unveiling activity that was capped with a fireworks display.*APN
