A grand double celebration
The 60th Foundation Day celebration of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City that I attended last July 5 started with the 9 a.m. Jubilee mass at the La Salle Coliseum.
Adding to the festive mood were the Integrated School drumbeaters, with the La Salle Brothers and University officers at the welcome reception line, greeting the golden jubilarians and guests.
For Class 1962, celebrating their golden jubilee this year was made more significant as it coincided with the 60th Diamond Jubilee of their Alma Mater. Their homecoming on July 4 and 5 was the most fitting tribute as they acknowledged and expressed their gratitude to the USLS for making them what they are today.
The whole Lasallian community filled the Coliseum. The De La Salle Association officers, with Johnny Sy as president; and Henry Atayde, president of the World Union of Lasallian, attended the mass, with Msgr. Rufino Suplido Jr., a member of the High School Class ‘62 as main celebrant, together with Fr. Sanjib Pani and Fr. Robbie Sian, who gave a meaningful homily.
After the mass, the jubilarians dropped by the Museo Negrense de La Salle, then a tour to the Santuario de La Salle for a lunch reception. A slideshow presentation of the jubilarians’ family photos entertained us during lunch.
It was a very successful affair for all the celebrating classes.
The family and relatives of the late Atty. Rufino and the late Paz Puentevella Manaloto celebrated their birthdays yesterday with a mass at the Bacolod Memorial Park, officiated by Fr. Naring de la Cruz.*
Remember: Nothing makes a new day more promising than having the right heart, the right spirit, the right mind and the right strength that comes from God.
