There is no claims backlog at PhilHealth in Western Visayas, Dennis Mas, PhilHealth regional vice president, said yesterday.
PhilHealth 6 paid P3,156,312,235.51 to health care providers, of which P1.8 billion went to private hospitals, in 2011, he said.
He also said that of the P1.6 billion paid from January 2012 to the present, more than P871 million was made to private hospitals as benefit payment for services rendered to PhilHealth members and dependents.
Mas told the DAILY STAR the explanation was being issued to clarify a claim that there was a backlog in Region 6.
PhilHealth is paying claims filed by HCPs in Region 6 on time, Dr. Elmer Pedregosa, president of the Private Hospitals Association in the Philippines-Western Visayas Chapter, and the College of Hospital Administrators, said in a PhilHealth press release.
“The backlog happened in the previous year, that is why we were complaining then”, Pedregosa, who is also the Iloilo Mission Hospital administrator, said.
“With regards to claims processing, this has been an ongoing struggle of the hospitals before, because I think it’s almost like part of the life of the hospital, especially on financing,” Pedregosa explained.
Before, it took PhilHealth 6 almost 60 days or more to process claims for reimbursement. But at present, claims are processed as early as 26 days upon receipt, Mas said.
“We have no complaints; there is a huge improvement in the turnaround time”, Jo Marie Crisix Muyco, administrator of the Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital, also said in the press release.
PHAP National Executive Vice President and Capiz Emmanuel Hospital Administrator Jessie Contreras also affirmed that they have no more problems with their claims with PhilHealth.
“Our people in the hospital and even our doctors are happy because they are being paid on time, simply because we are also receiving on time payment from PhilHealth”, Contreras said.
A similar reaction was also expressed by Arlene Ledesma, president and chief executive officer of the Pablo Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City, the press release said.
Hospital administrators said they are now happy with the PhilHealth 6’s management in responding to their long and overdue concern, the press release added.*
