Six members of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion and five policemen assigned at the Sagay City Police Station were cited for their laudable performance in Negros Occidental and conferred with medals yesterday at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City.
The awardees were Chief Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Sagay police chief; Senior Inspector Antonio Benitez, Inspector Edgar Catoto, SPO4 Noel Olaera, Police Officers 2 Jingle de la Paz and Rolin Jalauag, Police Officers 1 Wilfredo Lumogdang, Eddie Mondoy III, Rex Santillan, Moses Jonas Delos Reyes and Herbert Ojano.
Senior Inspector Sally Manuel, PRO6 spokesperson, yesterday said Benitez, Lomugdang, Mondoy, Santillan, de los Reyes and Ojano, all members of the 6th RPSB 2nd Maneuver Platoon, were conferred the Medalya ng Kasanayan for their exemplary acts displayed during an encounter with suspected New People’s Army rebels Sitio Moreño, Brgy Paitan, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, on July 26, which led to the killing of a suspected NPA member.
The slain NPA member was later identified as Edgar Lopez, who turned out to be a purok president in Brgy. Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City.
Senior Supts. Manuel Felix and Allan Guisihan, who both served as provincial police directors of Negros Occidental, assisted by Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga, led the pinning of medals on the deserving policemen of Western Visayas, held during the traditional flag raising ceremony in Iloilo City.
The Medalya ng Papuri were also awarded to Gutierrez, Catoto, Olaera, de la Paz and Jalauag for the commendable performance they rendered during the arrest of Danilo Magbologotong, who is listed as number three most wanted person in Sagay City, Manuel also said.
Magbologtong, who is facing murder charges in court, was denied bail by Cadiz Regional Trial Court Judge Renato Muñez.
For their noteworthy achievements, the 11 police officers earned credit and honor, not only for themselves, but also for the entire police organization, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, newly-installed regional police director of Western Visayas, said.*GPB
