Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra yesterday reiterated the stand of the Church on the Responsible Parenthood Bill, saying it is as deceptive as its predecessor, the Reproductive Health Bill.
Navarra said the responsible parenthood bill pretends to protect life, but actually, it does not.
“It is a corruption of the soul, a mutilation of our basic value, moral principle and integrity,” the bishop said.
He said that people are made to believe that over-population must be curbed at all cost, so that our government will have more funds with which to help the poor, so that the government can help `uplift the life of the poor’ and ironically, by distributing contraceptives, to the detriment of the soul.
“We have been remiss in teaching Godly values to our children and remind ourselves of these values. To discipline our self-indulgence and selfish pleasure-seeking priority is something that we do not want to curb. Making the spirit stronger and more willful than our flesh must be an essential part of the solution,” Navarra said.
He also pointed out that the world and culture are drastically drawn and focused on profit, pleasure, comfort and what’s-in-it-for-me mindset, allowing it to rule in people’s lives.
The bishop said that lifestyles are rapidly deteriorating with regards to morals and respect for life which is the most sacred thing.*
