No leads yet on child killer
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The head of the Bacolod City Police Women’s and Children’s Complaints Desk admitted yesterday that they are facing a blank wall as to the identity of the suspect in the killing of a child, whose decomposing body was found near a creek in a sugarcane plantation in Purok Rose, Brgy. Cabug, Bacolod City.

Insp. Jovy Cabcaban said the victim, Jessica Patiño, of Bago City, Negros Occidental, a kangkong vendor, had been reported missing since Thursday last week.

Cabcaban said they are facing difficulties in resolving the case of Patiño because there are no witnesses and the crime scene had already been altered.

WCCD has invited “alias Ayo”, 13, the adopted son of Patiño’s sister, Gina, Tuesday to shed light on the killing as there were initial reports that the victim followed him to the market, where he bought fish for lunch.

“Alias Ayo” was, however, released yesterday since WCCD failed to link him to the crime, Cabcaban told the DAILY STAR.

She appealed to those who may have knowledge of the crime to come out and help them serve justice to Patiño.

Patiño has been brought to her final resting place at the Handumanan public cemetery because her body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.

The police also believe that she was raped before she was killed as she had no more underwear and her legs were spread apart and she was lying on her back when she was found.*APN
