31st NOPSSCEA
opens tomorrow

The 31st season of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association Meet opens tomorrow at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in ceremonies that will feature sporting and cultural talents from NOPSSCEA member – schools.

Themed, “One@31”, this year’s competitions will underscore the common vision among the member-institutions to advocate for quality education among young Negrenses, advance cultural promotion and champion excellence in sports, NOPSSCEA president Dr. Rosario de Guzman said.

To keynote tomorrow’s opening rites is former local hardcourt standout Teodorico “Boyet” Fernandez, who donned the Colegio de San Agustin colors during his college years.

Tigers rip Basecom
in Fil-Sino tilt

Huminova Tigers routed Basecom, 97-70, to forge a three-way tie for leadership in the Fil-Sino All Asian 2nd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym, Monday.

The win allowed the Tigers to share the No. 1 spot with Basecom and Organic Solutions, while Royal Star Trading improved its quarterfinal chances by prevailing over AACI Trading, 97-91, in their own match-up.

 It was almost all over in the first half as the Tigers posted a commanding 59-30 lead with RB Chua, Peter Paul Ortaliz and Biboy Yap combining for 27 points.

Azkals to play in
Panaad Sept. 13

The Philippine Men’s Football Team, Azkals, will be in Bacolod City on September 13 to play against the Ceres - Negros First Under 23 Suzuki Cup champion team at the Panaad Stadium.

Set to start at 6 p.m., the match between the Azkals and the Negros Under-23 champion team that beat Iloilo during the Suzuki Cup PFF U23 Championship, is expected to draw a large crowd of football-loving Negrenses to the Panaad pitch.

While team composition for both the Azkals and the Ceres-Negros squads is yet to be released, the public are looking forward to see Younghusband brothers Phil and James along with Ilonggos Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta playing together once again.
