Beri pace softball tilt

Barangay Salvacion and Hda. Beri lead the Top 6 men’s softball squads after the second round of eliminations in the ongoing 2011 Mayor Andrew Montelibano Cup hostilities at the Murcia Public Plaza diamond.

Games in-charge Leandro Dairo said softball matches will go full blast this weekend as the Salvacion and Beri batters are expected to face tough opposition from Hda. Binitin, Hda. Carmen, Barangay Zone I and Purok Sunrise.

Beri narrowly escaped from the hands of the Binitin veterans, 8-6, over the weekend as Salvacion dumped Zone I, 11-7, in another schedule.

Binitin later redeemed itself by routing Purok Sunrise, 15-2, whose athletes earlier booked a 10-0 against Hda. Carmen.

In volleyball, High School Selection, Zone V and Caliban spikers took the Top 3 spots in the men’s bracket with two wins each as Buenavista led the women’s division with two victories after the elimination round.

Caliban defeated Zone I, 25-19, 27-25, as Salvacion upset Blumentritt, 25-23, 25-20, while Zone V overpowered Damsite, 25-15, 25-19.

Other results in the men’s contest: Lopez Jaena d. Zone IV, 25-15,22-25, 15-8; HS Selection d. Zone III, 29-27, 22-25, 25-23; Zone V d. Zone IV, 25-16, 25-22; Caliban d. Damsite, 25-19, 25-15; Blumentritt d. Zone III, 25-20, 25-14; Zone I d. Zone IV by default; Zone V d. Lopez Jaena, 25-18, 25-18; HS Selection d. Salvacion, 25-23, 25-22.

Results in the women’s division: Abu-Abo d. San Miguel, 25-20, 16-25, 16-14; Damsite d. Salvacion, 25-7, 25-22; Buenavista wins by default versus Sta. Cruz; Zone IV reigned over Zone III, also by default; Blumentritt d. Pandanon, 25-14, 25-14; Caliban d. Zone I, 25-20, 25-18; Buenavista d. San Miguel, 25-21, 25-17, and Salvacion booked a walk-over win against Zone III.*
