The playing venues are ready and the 47 schools that are joining in this year’s competition have accounted for all their athletes as the October 22 opening day of the 16th PSC – University Games in Roxas City, Capiz draws near.

UniGames president Roger Banzuela said 14 sports events will be contested during the weeklong tournament among top athletes from the participating colleges and universities in the country.

Up for grabs are gold, silver, and bronze medal honors in athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, sepak takraw, football, softball, beach volleyball, arnis, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, billiards and taekwondo.

Banzuela said the provincial government of Capiz, led by Gov. Victor Tanco and Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino, along with the mayors of the towns of Panit-an, Pan-ay and Ivisan have expressed their support to the event.

Lead host of this year’s National University Games is the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion headed by Monsignor Vicente Hilata, in cooperation with the Filamer Christian University, Hercor College and St. John La Salle-Roxas.

Last year, Silliman University in Negros Oriental played host to the 50 schools that joined the annual collegiate competition.

Confirmed entries in the Roxas UniGames this year are: (Luzon) Adamson University, Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, Cavite; De La Salle College of St. Benilde,De La Salle-Lipa, Batangas; De La Salle University, Far Eastern University,   Holy Angel University-Pampanga;

National University, Rizal Technological University,  San Beda College , St. Francis of Assisi College,  St. Louis University-Baguio, University of Northern Philippines-Vigan,  University of Sto.Tomas,  University of the Assumption-Pampanga, University of the East  and University of the Philippines-Diliman.

(Visayas): Central Philippines University, Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion-Capiz, College of St. John-Roxas, Capiz;  Filamer Christian University-Capiz, Hercor College- Capiz, Iloilo Doctor’s College, John B.
