A retired army reservist major who was sideswiped by a motorcycle in what appeared to be a hit-and-run incident in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, Sunday, died in a hospital Monday.
The victim was retired Maj. Romeo Eslabon, 79, of Sharina Heights Subdivision, Bacolod, Traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Wilson Go said yesterday.
Investigation showed that Eslabon was crossing the street at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he was sideswiped by the motorcycle that was heading towards Sharina Heights Subdivision.
Witnesses claimed that the motorcycle driver stopped for a while, but later sped off while Eslabon’s family called for rescuers to bring him to the hospital.
Eslabon was rushed to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, where he died later.
Witnesses described the motorcycle driver to be chubby, with a semi-bald haircut and about 20 years old, Eslabon’s daughter, Vanessa, told the DAILY STAR.
She also said that her father must have been on his way to the house of one of her siblings when the accident happened.
She appealed to the motorcycle driver to surrender so justice will be served to her deceased father.
Go said they are still working on the identity of the motorcycle driver, but admitted having difficulties because the witnesses were only able to note down four numerical digits of the motorcycle’s plate number.
He said they will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office to identify the driver.*APN
