DPWH action on roads sought

A resolution requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office, Iloilo City, to include in their ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction certain damaged roads in Bacolod City, is being proposed by Councilor Roberto Rojas.

The resolution said the DPWH had started the rehabilitation and construction of various streets in Bacolod City.

Upon inquiry from the DPWH, some damaged roads were not made part of their scope of project works, specifically the Bacolod south circumferential road (from the Bacolod City Government Center to the junction of Cabug-Handumanan road), and  portion of the road going to the junction of the Bacolod boundary-circumferential road (Burgos extension or in front of Lopue’s East), it said.

Meanwhile, Rojas proposed another resolution requesting Mayor Evelio Leonardia to direct the City Engineer’s Office to fast-track the completion of the drainage improvement project in Barangays 3 and 4, from 18th-Gatuslao streets to B.S. Aquino Drive.

The resolution said the drainage improvement in Brgy. 3 and 4 was started by the CEO in March 2010, and residents and barangay officials in the area have noted the slow development of the project.

It said that due to the heavy rain brought by typhoon Pedring recently, the area experienced backflow of water and flooding problems despite the presence of the drainage.*CGS
