Negros softbelles
reign in PNG

Displaying the skills that make them world-class players, the Negros First-Adamson and Negros First softbelles stamped their class on the 2011 POC-PSC National Games with the Adamson team capturing the title and the local girls finishing in the top three.

Composed of players from Negros Occidental who are enrolled in Adamson University in Manila on a varsity scholarship, the Negros First-Adamson Softball 1 team blanked Rizal Province, 10-0, to win the crown on Saturday.

The Negros First batters, on the other hand, got away with an 8-5 victory against Tacurong City to snatch a runner-up honors.

Patrimonio sisters
sizzle in lawn tennis

While Alvin Patrimonio has established himself as one of the top players in the Philippine Basketball Association, his daughters, Christine and Clarisse, opted to make a name for themselves in women’s tennis.

The Patrimonio sisters faced each other Saturday at the Noah’s Haven Indoor Tennis Court to dispute the gold in the 2011 POC-PSC National Games with Clarisse prevailing over her older sibling Christine, 6-4, 6-2.

Ranked No. 1 in local tennis, Clarisse, 17, was an ITF Grade 4 champion in Hong Kong and Brunei and has a 134th ranking in International Tennis Federation. She will represent the country in the Thailand ITF juniors next month.

Karatekas seek
Trillanes’ help

The country's top karatekas are set to bring to the Senate today their complaint against the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission for ignoring the problems besetting the Philippine Karatedo Federation.

Two-time SEA Games gold medalist and Asian Games silver medalist Marna Pabillore, 2003 Vietnam SEAG bronze medalist Lutche Metante, Jan Paul Morales, Roland Lagman Jr., Renato Manalo, Joel Gonzaga and Reymund Mejico are scheduled to meet with Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, the new president of the Basketball Association of the Philippines.

They said they want the Senate to take a look at their problem because the POC and PSC continue to ignore them and POC spokesman Joey Romasanta refuses to speak to them.
