2 motorists escape
spillway harm

Two young men escaped unharmed Friday when their motorcycle engine conked out as they attempted to cross an overflowing spillway at the Banica River in Barangay West Balabag, Valencia town Negros Oriental.

The two were identified as Shielon Elnar Karaka, male, 19, and the driver of the motorcycle, and his companion as Charlie Yber Bello, 18, both single, and of Dumaguete City.

Valencia police station reports said Karaka and Bello tried to cross the spillway at around 6:30 a.m. Friday after floodwaters triggered by rains brought about by Typhoon Chedeng caused it to overflow.

The two jumped off the motorcycle and rushed to safety then walked all the way to the police station in Valencia town proper to report the incident.

Members of the Valencia Emergency Rescue Team later recovered the motorcycle, that incurred minor damages, near the spillway.*JFP
