Colonia sets new mark
in men’s weightlifting

After Hidilyn Diaz broke existing records in women’s weightlifting Thursday, it was the turn of their men counterparts to impress sports officials at the POC-PSC National Games as Nestor Colonia erased the 20-year-old mark set by Samuel Alegada in the bantamweight or 52kg category.

The 19-year-old Colonia from Zamboanga City, registered 116 kg in the snatch event to eclipse his personal best of 110kg which he established in the Guangzhou Asian Games last year.

He also broke his own records in the snatch category at 56 kg by improving his previous marks of 100 kg to 116 kg. In the clean and jerk junior, he broke his own record of 125 kg with a plus of 12.5 kg.
