Basecom surprised top seeded Organic Solutions, 78-72, while JSY Transport routed Royal Star Trading, 102-61, in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament played at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Basecom tied its victim atop the standings at 3-1 while JSY Transport also caught up with Royal Star at 2-2 at the close of the first round of elimination.
Organic took the first half, 45-34, as Julius Teruel fired 12 points and Ton Ton Chua and Cris Vargas combined for 15 points even as Edward Uy scored 10 points for Basecom.
At the start of the second half, Clarance Quingco scored nine points to cut the deficit to 57-50, sparkling a rally that carried on up to the final quarter.
In the final minutes of the play, Luigi Coo racked up 13 points to almost singlehandedly outscored Organic as Edward Uy and Michael Miranda provided the support with five points each.
Coo topscored for Basecom with 18 points, while Uy contributed 16 points, Quingco finished with 12 points, Chua chipped in 8 points and Miranda, 7 points.
Organic was paced by Ton Ton Chua with 18 points, backstopped by Teruel with 12 points.
In the first game, JSY Transport dominated and caught unaware the off-form and undermanned Royal Star as they won all quarters 26-12, 13-29, 19-18 and 28-18.
Ryan Tumbagahan ignited JSY with 10 points in the first quarter to finish with 20 points. Errol Su scored seven points in the opening quarter and added 11 points in the payoff quarter to tally 18 points. Timothy Chua added 13 points, Patrick Diente and Berto Uysang contributed 10 points each and Richard Tan, 9 points.
Monroe Chua picked up 18 points for Royal Star as Chief Supt. Adonis Rosales added 16 points, Ralph Richard Tan hit 12 points and Jimmy Yap with 6 points.
Meanwhile, the Fil-Sino club will play three games against the Iloilo Filipino Chinese Basketball Association tomorrow. The friendly games will start 3 p.m. with a match-up in Class C followed by a game in Class B at 4:30 p.m., and Class A match at 6 p.m.*NAB
