Mayor places Dumaguete
on blue alert vs. ‘Chedeng’

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Dumaguete City was placed was placed on blue alert yesterday by  Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria as Typhoon Chedeng brought heavy and continuous rains and flooding in some rivers.

Sagarbarria convened the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council yesterday, to map out preventative measures because of a weather forecast that said the southwest monsoon will also hit Negros Island, Antique and Southwest Mindoro.

Major spillways that include those in the barangays of Cadawinonan, Batinguel, the dumpsite in Candau-ay, and in Bagacay that leads to Colon Street Extension and Foundation University, were sealed off to prevent people and transportation from being carried downstream in the Banica River, which had overflowed.
