GMA-7 lines up programs

GMA-7 will unveil six top-notch programs and offers the exclusive airing of this year’s most highly anticipated boxing match – all during this month, a press release from the network said.

The groundbreaking month-long television event is the Kapuso Network’s way of thanking its loyal viewers for making it the number one broadcast station, not just in Mega Manila, but in the entire country, the press release said.

It added that, beginning on the first Monday of the month, viewers will surely get hooked to another Koreanovela that created a craze in Korea. Replacing top-rating Koreanovela “The Baker King”, Secret Garden features the tandem of Hwang Jini lead star, Ha Ji Won, and My Name is Kim Sam Soon leading man, Hyun Bin. They will witness how two very different people get to understand and admire each other through a magical phenomenon that switched their bodies. Secret Garden begins this Monday, right after I Heart You Pare in GMA Telebabad.

On May 8, GMA-7 airs the exclusive coverage and other behind-the-scene footages of the most awaited face-off between Pinoy Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao and his opponent Shane Mosley, the press release said.

The launching of the Kapuso Network’s pioneering family drama for the year, Munting Heredera, comes next. Bannered by veteran actress Gloria Romero, this original program brings enlightenment and inspiration to the entire household as it tackles universal issues on love, family and life.

Joining the award-winning actress are Roderick Paulate, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Camille Prats, Katrina Halili, among others, along with three of the network’s freshest young discoveries, Mona Louise Rey, Kyle Daniel Ocampo, and Barbara Miguel. Munting Heredera airs on GMA Telebabad beginning May 9, the press release said.

GMA also brings to TV the 80’s movie originally starred by Snooky Serna and written in comics by Elena Patron. Blusang Itim premieres early afternoon on May 16, in GMA Dramarama sa Hapon.

On May 28, the Philippine movie classic, Andres de Saya, comes to television, too, with Cesar Montano and Iza Calzado reprising the roles of Vic Vargas and Gloria Diaz.

Starting May 30, the network’s unbeatable afternoon drama block further strengthens with the launch of Sisid.

The stage is also set for the grand premiere of GMA-7’s biggest television production in history, Amaya, on May 30. Primetime Queen Marian Rivera no less breathes life to the challenging role of a woman blessed with superpowers, the press release said.

Another Koreanovela to premiere this May is Playful Kiss, a story based on a popular Japanese manga.

My Chubby World, to begin on May 14, is a kiddie show hosted by Renz Valerio, Zyrael Jestre, Daniela Jessica Amable and Gianne Cutler, the press release added.*

Rain gauges donated

Seven public high schools, two tertiary schools and the PAGASA office in Dumaguete City recently received manual rain gauges from Smart Communications Inc. to enable them to regularly monitor rainfall under the company’s Project Rain Gauge, a press release from Smart said.

The Dumaguete City government is encouraging the participation of schools and barangays in Smart’s Project Rain Gauge, since the initiative is seen to eventually build rainfall data that could contribute to the development of a community-based early warning system, especially against flooding, the press release said.

Dumaguete has been experiencing flashfloods, the worst of which occurred in 2009, when continuous and heavy rainfall resulted in the overflowing of the Banica and Okoy rivers, causing extensive damage to life and property, the press release said.

Representatives who received their rain gauges were from Camanjac National High School, Taclobo High School, Junob National High School, Dumaguete City National High School, RTPM – Dumaguete Science High School, Hermenigilda F. Gloria Memorial High School, Piapi High School, Maxino College, St. Paul University and PAGASA.

With them were Dumaguete City Councilor Danilo Teves-Leon, Smart Public Affairs VisMin senior manager Maria Jane Paredes and Community Partnerships manager Nova Clotario-Concepcion and Department of Education Office of the Assistant Division Superintendent Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Emigdio Omictin, the press release added.*

Balaring mangrove
slated for evaluation

The Balaring Mangrove Rehabilitation Project in Brgy. Blaring, Silay City, Negros Occidental, will be visited for evaluation as part of the activity of 45 participants joining a seminar on Technical Cooperation on the Development of Tourism Statistics System for Local Government Units.

Topics include data gathering, planning, marketing and promotion of tourist attractions in Western Visayas.

Seminar participants are representatives from Capiz, Negros Occidental and Antique sponsored by the Japan International Cooperating Agency, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism, a Silay press release said.

They will also interact with the members of Balaring Mangrove Planters’ Association on the organizational function, mangrove management, ecotourism promotion, networking and linkaging, community participation and people empowerment.

Lectures on conservation and preservation will be conducted by Chairman Leo Canson of IKAW-AKO Japan-Negros Partnership for Environmental Protection, Tourism Officer VerPacete from the Association of Tourism Officers of Negros Occidental and GerleSulmaca of Silay Tourism Office, the press release said.

Participants will also evaluate the economic gain of the project like the establishment of shoreline restaurants, the putting up of oyster culture, and the preparation of the board walk for sports enthusiasts.

The participants are headed by Director Rolando Cavizal of DOT Planning Division with Ramil Basuel, Milagros Say, Tadashi Kume, Sherrie Fujinuma and Mary Grace Desura, the press release added.*
