DOLE starts campaign vs.
job, skills mismatch

Putting emphasis on career guidance to enable students make good career decisions to ease problem of jobs and skills mismatch, the Department of Labor and Employment in Region 6 recently conducted orientations for guidance counselors, a government press release said.

The initiative is based on the new Standard Manuals entitled, Career Guide for High School Students and Employment Guide for College Students and Jobseekers aimed at enhancing their capability on career and employment coaching, the press release said.

DOLE Region 6 Regional Director Manuel Roldan had reported that 147 guidance counselors from tertiary and secondary schools and Public Employment Service Office Managers attended the orientations conducted in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Negros Occidental.

The Department of Labor and Employment in Negros Occidental recorded 43 applicants hired on the spot and 727 qualified to the jobs they applied for during the Labor Day jobs fair at the SM City Event Center in Bacolod City, DOLE provincial director Ma. Victoria Mondragon said yesterday.

From the 58 local employers, BongBong’s and Merci’s bakeshop and pastries and Live Well Spa hired 32 applicants on the spot, while Al Alamia International Manpower Services and MMML Recruitment Services hired 11 applicants for jobs abroad, Mondragon said.

She said applicants hired locally will work as bakers, management trainees, cashiers, and massage therapists, while overseas job placements are for domestic helpers in Middle East countries.

Capitol to buy
farm property

The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental will purchase a 14-hectare land adjacent to the existing settlement located at Sitio Alimotoc, Brgy. Celestino, Villacin, Cadiz City, a Capitol press release said.

This is part of thrust of the present administration to improve the agriculture sector and to support the Negrense farmers.

The property suitable for housing and demo farm purposes. It must be titled and accessible to barangay road, and must have available power and water supply, not transferred to agrarian reform beneficiaries, and free from nuisance, the press release also said.
