BFP regl chief leads
safety inspection

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Bureau of Fire Protection officials in Region 7, led by regional director Fire Sr. Supt. Ma. Luisa Hadjula, have so far found only minimal violations of the country’s Fire Safety Code during their inspection of universities, schools, dormitories and boarding houses in Dumaguete City.

The inspection, held Sunday and Monday, is part of the agency’s Oplan Balik Eskwela, to ensure the fire safety of occupants, especially students, in these particular establishments, Hadjula said.

Negros Oriental is the third province in Central Visayas to be visited by the BFP regional director, who will proceed to Siquijor.

Hadjula lauded Dumaguete City for being conscientious in complying with requirements under the Fire Safety Code, noting that only minimal violations like busted emergency lights or worn out electrical wirings has been noted during the inspections.

On the issue of boarding houses where the owners do not declare these as such, she said she has instructed fire marshals to conduct a regular and massive inspection of the establishments.*JFP
