Murder charges will be filed today before the Bacolod City prosecutor’s Office against a banana vendor for the fatal shooting of a team leader of the City Legal Office enforcement team, Station 1 commander. Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz, said yesterday.
However, the suspect, Christopher Mahilum, 26, of Fortune Towne Subdivision in Brgy. Estefania, was released yesterday as the reglamentary period for his arrest lapsed.
So, instead of filing the case in an inquest proceeding, Station 1 policemen will file it at large because the family of Unardo Pineda, 50, failed to furnish a copy of his death certificate to the police, Ortiz said.
Among the evidences they will present before the City Prosecutor’s Office is the death certificate of Pineda, and the affidavit of complaint of his family and the lone witness, who positively identified Mahilum.
However, Ernie Pineda, an executive assistant of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leornardia and the victim’s brother, said he is not convinced Mahilum had killed his brother.
While they want justice for his elder brother’s death, Pineda said, they do not want to see an innocent person languish in jail.
CLO enforcement team head, Cesar Beloria, said they are closely coordinating with Police Station 1 on the progress of the case of Pineda.
He appealed to them to ensure that it is indeed Mahilum who was behind the killing, otherwise, their search for justice may be in vain because if their evidences they have against him are not sufficient, the City Prosecutor’s Office may just dismiss the case.*APN
