Basecom overpowered JSY Transport, 78-64, to bag the top spot in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang gym.
The team is tied with Organic Solutions atop the standings with six wins and two losses, but Basecom edged Organic with a better quotient as JSY Transport dropped to 3-5 behind idle Royal Star Trading at 4-4.
Semifinals in Class B starts today with Basecom, with a twice-to-beat advantage, clashing against JSY Transport again in the curtain raiser at 7 p.m.
In the other semifinals pairing, Royal Star Trading will play Organic Solutions in a knockout match scheduled at 8:15 p.m., with Organic as heavy favorite having beaten Royal by double digits in their two encounters during the eliminations.
In the game against JSY Transport, Basecom has a very productive first quarter output with four players contributing five or more points leading to a 28-12 margin.
Edward Uy led the early surge for Basecom as he churned in 11 points, while Jan Jan Young effectively backed him up with 7 points.
Transport managed to cut down the lead to 42-32 at the half on the inside drives of Celhelm Uy who delivered 10 points for the team.
But Basecom bounced back and recovered the lead in the third quarter at 60-45 as Elwin Javelosa Jr. scored 9 points.
Transport Garret Tabanao and Rey Jara 6 points each in the payoff quarter, but Basecom remained ahead as their balanced offense was just enough to keep their double digit lead.
Edward Uy topscored for Basecom with 19 points, Luigi Coo added 11 points, long shooters Javelosa and Young put in 9 points each, Clarence Quingco made 7 points, Carl John Doblar and Michael Miranda with 6 points apiece.
Celhelm Uy paced JSY Transport with 17 points, Tabanao scored 14 points, Rey Jara shot 12 points, and Ryan Tumbagahan had 5 points.
Earlier, AACI Transport routed Huminova Tigers, 112-84, in a no bearing matchup in Class A.
