Local reggae bands in Dumaguete City will hold a charity concert today at the Hayahay Bar and Viewdeck at the Piapi Beach, in Dumaguete.
The proceeds of the concert will be donated to indigent children in the city, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
The five reggae bands are Igorootz, Arciemon, Boyanslaw, Standout and Enchi. These groups have been performing in several areas in Negros island, and are known for their R n B, Reggae na Binisaya, genre of music.
Bar owner Sonny Fuentes said the activity is also part of a decade of celebration since they started the Reggae Wednesday in 2001.
The free concert is part of their gratitude to the people of Dumaguete for supporting the local bands, who are also performing their original compositions.
Fuentes said the bands agreed to donate their talent fees to charities, so more children will receive school supplies.
Arciemon, guitarist of the JR Kilat band in Cebu, who also performs in Hayahay, said they want to share something with the less fortunate children who will become the future musicians and leaders of the country.
The vocalist of Enchi, Herbert Timtim, said they have been doing charity work like donating to the soup kitchen in Amador Dagodag Elementary School in Barangay Looc, free school supplies to elementary school children, and pairs of slippers.
Timtim said they have decided to give the donation through the DSWD so that more children can benefit from free school supplies.*MA
