A leader of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade was shot dead Thursday night, by a farm worker in Manapla, Negros Occidental, in an incident triggered by old grudges, police said.
Police Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio yesterday said the victim, Romelie Caniete, alias “Ka Ryan”, 32, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal injury in the head, after he was shot allegedly by Nilo Besonia, who intruded into his residence in Hacienda Guinolayan, Brgy. Tortosa, Manapla.
Gregorio, who is the Manapla police chief, said Nenita Besonia, mother of the suspect, was hit in the crossfire, while her son, who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol, fired several times at Caniete.
The injured Besonia is now being treated at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Bacolod City.
Several days before the shooting incident, Besonia filed a complaint for harassment against Caniete at the Manapla Police Station.
Investigations by the Manapla police showed that Caniete, a team leader of the RPA-ABB, had accused Besonia of attempting to steal his motorcycle.
Gregorio said they tried to settle the matter but both parties did not show up at the Manapla Police Station.
Police investigators of Manapla recovered 13 empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Besonia immediately fled after shooting the victim, bringing with him the gun, he said.* GPB
