| Jobless man knifed dead
over ‘verbal tussle’: cops
A misunderstanding allegedly caused the death of a jobless man in Brgy. 30, Bacolod City, at about 2:45 a.m. Monday.
Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, yesterday identified the victim as Junery Asumbra, 51, of Poinsettia Street, Brgy. 30.
Gentoleo said Asumbra had a verbal tussle with the suspect, identified as Ronnie Abkilan, “alias Datu”, 27, of San Sebastian Street in Brgy. 30, who suddenly took out a bladed weapon and stabbed the victim several times.
Asumbra was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, more victims of shooting and hacking on Christmas Day were reported to the Bacolod City Police Office yesterday.
Leo Mercandal, 40, of Mandaue City, in Cebu and a resident of Green Acres Subdivision in Brgy. Mansilingan and Raymund Romano, 19, of Purok Totong in Brgy. Felisa were rushed with gunshot and hack wounds, respectively, to the CLMMRH.
Mercandal had a gunshot wound on his left side while Romano had hack wounds on his shoulder and neck, the police said.
The suspect a certain “Raul Lobrido” of Green Acres Subdivision fled after the incident at about 11:35 p.m.
Leonardo Villaruel, 46, of Brgy. Lag-asan in Bago City was also rushed with injuries on his chest and wrist to CLMMRH after the suspect, Joshua Sarsuelo, 22, of Brgy. Alijis shot him with a slingshot at about 3 a.m.*APN

Police launch manhunt operation vs.
suspect in courier firm robbery
The Bacolod City police has launched a massive manhunt operation against a jobless man who reportedly held up a courier company in the city shortly before Christmas Eve Saturday.
Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said they are filing robbery charges against Reynaldo De Jesus, 36, of Paglaum Village in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
De la Paz said De Jesus was still at large as of yesterday and they have sought the help of his wife, whose name was not disclosed, for him to surrender.
De Jesus’ picture has been released by the Bacolod City police to help in his immediate arrest.
LBC courier company employee Bryan Gonzalodo of Zone 5 in Brgy. Handumanan reported Saturday that he was about to open their store at about 8 a.m. Saturday when De Jesus arrived, pretended to be a customer, and later held him up at knife point.
De Jesus took the vault that contained about P40,000 in cash and fled.
Reports said that De Jesus had been a regular customer of the courier company months before the robbery happened.*APN

Fiesta reveler
nabbed for ‘sulpak’
A benefit dance reveler was arrested by the Himamaylan City policemen at about 2:18 a.m. Monday after he was allegedly caught with an improvised shotgun or “sulpak” and a bladed weapon.
Police identified the reveler as Jimboy Capnao, 23, of Sitio Tuyuman in Brgy. Caradio-an in Himamaylan City.
Reports to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial office showed that a commotion took place at the benefit dance in Brgy. Caradio-an that was celebrating its annual festival.
The barangay tanods, the Philippine Army and Caradio-an Captain Pablo Libo-on pacified the persons involved and found that Capnao had an improvised shotgun and an 11-inch long double bladed knife in his possession, police records showed.
Capnao is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Himamaylan City police and appropriate charges are being readied against him.*APN
