A 38-year-old man was recently charged for rape before the Cadiz City Regional Trial Court, in connection with the molestation of an elderly woman last week in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
SPO3 Noel Olaera, chief investigator of the Sagay police, said the suspect, identified as Bonifacio Clan, alias Nonoy, is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, after the filing of charges against him Aug. 18.
Olaera said Clan allegedly molested a 62-year-old woman, whose identity is being withheld, on Aug. 15 at Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. 2 Poblacion in Sagay City. He was immediately arrested by the Sagay police.
Meanwhile, Supt. Remus Zacharias Canieso, deputy provincial police director of Negros Occidental, reported 10 percent increase in crimes against person from Aug. 9 to 16, compared to the previous week.
Rape, murder, homicide and physical injuries are classified as crimes against person.
Canieso said crimes against person usually take place when somebody is under the influence of liquor, or they are triggered by old grudges.
He said they are intensifying their Oplan Bakal and Sita campaign, increasing the conduct of checkpoints, and visibility operations in crime- prone areas.
Canieso, however, said they have noted a 40 percent reduction in crimes against property in the same period in Negros Occidental.*GPB
