The Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan Wednesday approved a resolution declaring that May 1, 1901 is the true date of the founding of Negros Occidental, and officials and employees of the province are entitled to anniversary bonuses on that date.

Act 119 specifically provides for the establishment of Negros Occidental on May 1, 1901 and not March 10, 1917, the SP was informed in a memorandum from the Provincial Legal Office.*
