About  600 players from 28 teams across the Philippines are expected to participate in the 2011 Ultimate Shindig National Frisbee Tournament set in Dumaguete City from August 19 to 21.

The national event is spearheaded by the Negros Oriental Ultimate Players Association, the province of Negros Oriental and  Dumaguete City, in cooperation private sponsors, Anna Christina Torres Pasigna said.

The Ultimate Shindig 2011-the 5th Ultimate Disc Competition will feature teams from Manila, Palawan, Ormoc, Maasin, Iloilo, Cebu, Dipolog, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Bohol, and Sibulan, Bacong, Bais, and Dumaguete in Negros Oriental.

The venue of the Frisbee games will be the Perdices Coliseum from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  August 19 to 21,  and the Silliman Ballfield, now called the Filomeno Cimafranca Ballfield, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on August 19.

A program opening will be held on both fields during the first day of the national frisbee tournament, shortly before the first game will be played, Pasigna said.

Actor and model Derek Ramsey, an avid fan of Frisbee, has been invited to play during the national event, and is expected to be playing with Team KKK, Pasigna added.

Ramsey has been spotted a few times in Dumaguete, taking time out from his endorsements for a mobile phone company, to play Frisbee with the local players.*JFP
