injured in shooting
A construction worker was injured when his neighbor reportedly shot him at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City, allegedly over an old grudge.
Injured was Ricky Magbanua, 31, of Purok Pukatod in Brgy. Felisa, Station 10 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said yesterday.
Magbanua was rushed with multiple gunshot wounds on his chest to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he is now confined. The suspect, Robert Jimenez, 33, jobless, was arrested and is now detained at Police Station 10, Dejucos added.
Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Kris Ian Cango showed that Magbanua went behind their residence to get something when Jimenez, who had been waiting for him, shot the victim with the use of an improvised shotgun or “sulpak” on his chest.
Magbanua allegedly hit the head of Jimenez’s relative several months ago which angered the suspect, Dejucos said.
Jimenez already underwent paraffin test while charges for either frustrated murder or frustrated homicide may be filed against the gunman, Dejucos added.*APN back

35 collared for
drugs in Silay
Thirty-five suspects allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade in Silay City, Negros Occidental, have been neutralized through their arrest in more than four months of intensified operations, city police chief, Supt. Rosauro Francisco, said yesterday.
Francisco said John Rey Tobongbanua, alias Brown, yesterday was added to the list of suspected drug pushers they have accounted for, since he assumed as Silay police officer-in-charge on March 18.
He said the arrest of Tobongbanua yielded two sachets of suspected shabu, P450 in cash believed to be derived from the sale of prohibited drugs, P400 in marked money, and a cellular phone.
Of the 763 drug personalities included in the watchlist of drug personalities in Region 6, a total of 239 are peddlers, and 524 are users.
On the same day, a certain Roger Agraciada, 34, who has a pending arrest warrant for attempted homicide, was also apprehended by a team of policemen led by SPO1 Enrique Jaranilla in Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City.
Francisco said Silay Judge Antonio Guinanao has recommended P12,000 bail for Agraciada.* GPB back

PNP: Jobless woman
nabbed for ‘shabu’
A jobless woman was apprehended by members of the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Group in a stake-out operation for alleged illegal drug possession in Brgy. 8, Bacolod City, at about 1:50 a.m. yesterday.
Arrested was Felicidad Derla, “alias Plesing”, 45, of Purok Narra Baybay in Brgy. 8, AIDSTOG team leader, Senior Insp. Joemarie Occeño, said.
Investigation showed that Derla, who is in the watchlist of AIDSTOG, has been under surveillance for a month now, on information that she is into the illegal drug trade.
Derla was sitting on a bench beside the footwalk of Purok Narra Baybay and when she recognized the group of Occeño she attempted to throw the plastic sachet of suspected shabu she was holding, and attempted to flee, but was immediately caught, Occeño said.
Two more elongated sachets of suspected shabu, two disposable lighters, a pair of scissors, several empty plastic sachets, plastic straw used as a scoop and P460 in cash were seized from Derla during her arrest, the police added.
Occeño disclosed that they already have identified where the illegal substance came from, but refused to identify the source so as not to hamper their ongoing investigation.
Derla, who is now detained at the Bacolod City Police headquarters, said that she is new to the illegal drug trade.
Charges for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165, for possession illegal drugs, will be filed against Derla.*APN back

De la Paz lauds cops’

Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, gave certificates of commendation to members of “Task Force Villa Angela” and “Task Force Mister X” in a ceremony at the BCPO parade grounds, recently.
TF Villa Angela arrested Jestoni Carlo Del Prado, alias “Biboy Simon”, and Jesus Niepes of Barangay 35, Bacolod City, and Ruben Valiente, 40 of Sitio Lunok in Barangay Purisima, Manapla, Negros Occidental, on July 28 and 29.
They are suspects in a robbery with homicide and rape case at Angela Subdivision in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod, on March 20, a BCPO press release said.
Task Force Mister X arrested Jee Arr Mendoza, 20, of Purok San Jose in Barangay. Alijis and his accomplice, Gerald Burgos, 19, of Hermilinda Homes, Brgy. Mansilingan, for killing Giovanni Preta at Magsungay River, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, the press release said.
They were arrested during a follow-up operation conducted by the police at ACCO housing in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, on July 19.
Members of the task force recovered the victim’s MSR 110cc motorcycle, a cellphone, a homemade 12 gauge shotgun,a 9mm live ammunition, and a belt knife, the press release added.* back
