to solve colleague’s slay

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Negros Oriental chapter is raising funds as reward money for the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the lone gunman who murdered a lawyer on Friday, inside his law office at LeqTak building, corner San Jose and Ma. Cristina streets, Barangay 6, Dumaguete City.

IBP chapter president, Arturo Dupio, said during the emergency meeting of IBP officers on Saturday the group decided to put up reward money of P200,000.

Joel Obar, a member of the IBP Board, started the ball rolling by committing P20,000 to the reward fund; Dupio pledged P10,000; Rodrigo Icao P5,000, and Raymund Mercado pledged a significant amount, among others.

NEGORNET cites
accomplishments

The Negros Oriental Network of non-government organizations and people's organizations recognized its success stories during its 8th anniversary celebration recently.

NEGORNET president, Msgr. Merlin Logronio, specifically mentioned its "Timbayayong Awards," which was considered a landmark achievement when it was established eight years ago, a press release from the group said.

The annual awards continue to recognize the efforts of NGOs, POs and the local government units to build strong partnership working together for local development projects, Logronio said.

City resurrects
‘rewards system’
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A member of the Negros Oriental provincial board, who authored the reward system ordinance during his stint as city councilor of Dumaguete, is urging the full implementation of the law.

Board Member Saleto Erames said Ordinance 73, otherwise known as the Reward System, will entice, hired guns to come out in the open, surrender, reveal the identity of his mastermind, and turn state witness.

He said the reward system was also introduced so masterminds will have second thoughts that their hired assassins may turn on them for the much lucrative reward.
