Workers to demand resolution
of cases at DOLE picket today

Workers from various sectors are expected to stage a picket today at the Department of Labor and Employment to demand a speedy and just resolution of pending cases and the enforcement of basic labor standards to all employees, a press release from the Negros Labor Center said.

The group said labor disputes dating as far back as 2006 and affecting some 5,000 sugar farm and mill workers have remained unresolved at the DOLE office.

This piling up of cases has left the workers at the mercy of their employers, the press release said.

The group also underscored anew that the many workers in the agricultural sector receive pay below the minimum wage, the press release added.*
