The number of persons arrested in Western Visayas for violation of the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Election has gone up to 127 as of yesterday, police records show.
The suspects included four soldiers, four policemen, seven security guards, two government militiamen, seven government officials, three suspected rebels, and the rest are civilians, police records show.
In the same period, the PRO 6 also reported having confiscated 102 firearms, and 33 bladed weapons, which are also covered by the firearms ban, and five hand grenades. They have filed 110 cases in court, so far.
Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, Operations and Plans Division chief of the Police Regional Office 6, said the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is still leading in gun ban accomplishments with 44 persons arrested, 40 confiscated firearms, and 37 cases filed in court.
The Bacolod City Police Office is trailing NOPPO with 20 persons arrested and 12 firearms confiscated.
De la Paz said the Capiz Police Provincial Office also arrested 17 violators, Iloilo – 12, Antique – 10, Iloilo City and Aklan – 9 each, while Guimaras PNP collared four violators.
The PRO 6 also reminded owners of registered firearms that they can still be arrested for violation of the firearms ban, if they insist on carrying their guns without a permit from the Comelec.*GPB
