| Jakosalem joins
Gore in China
Brother Jaazeal Jakosalem, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos property administrator, was selected as one of the trainees of The Climate Project Training in Beijing, China, June 9 to 12.
Former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore, with the cooperation of Alliance for Climate Protection, The Climate Project, and the China-U.S. Center for Sustainable Development organized the training session, a UNO-R press release said.
The event, held with the support of the Chinese government, led by the Ministry of Science and Technology, saw Gore personally train a cross-section of 300 Chinese citizens and selected participants from other countries (US, Indonesia, UK and the Philippines) who share a commitment to reduce the harmful effects of climate change, the press release said.
The Beijing event focused on the science of climate change and provided tools for effective communication about the issue. Those trained will become Presenters for The Climate Project. Presenters deliver an updated version of the slide show featured in the Academy-Award winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth.
The Climate Project, a program of the Alliance for Climate Protection, supports the work of more than 3,000 volunteers in 55 countries around the world.
Jakosalem is active in the university’s recycling program and eco-educational initiatives, the UNO-R press release said.
Currently, UNO-R has its own recycling facility, and the students are active participants in the re-greening initiatives related to tree-planting and community-based eco-educational program, it said.*
