| Woman nabbed
in drug bust
A woman was arrested for allegedly selling illegal drugs, in a stakeout operation by the Bacolod City police’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group in Brgy. 2, yesterday.
The arrested suspect was identified as Jocelyn Cawaling, 42, of Purok Sigay, Brgy. 2, Bacolod, by CAID-STOG team leader Senior Insp. Joemarie Occeño.
A drug operative, who requested anonymity, said they spotted Cawaling showing something to an unidentified man while they were conducting surveillance operation at about 11:45 a.m. yesterday.
The drug operatives seized from her an elongated plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and arrested her while the man, to whom she was showing the banned substance, evaded arrest, police records showed.
Cawaling surrendered another elongated plastic sachet of suspected shabu in a black coin purse, a pair of scissors, a bamboo clip and several empty sachets after her arrest.
Cawaling said she had been arrested also for illegal drug possession in 2006 but refused to identify her source. Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are now being readied against her.*APN

TMU warns vs.
counterflows
The reminder came from Bacolod City Police Office Traffic Management Unit head Chief Insp. Levy Pangue yesterday after President Benigno Aquino III ordered last week that no vehicles should be allowed to go against the normal flow of traffic of the country’s main roads and highways.
Pangue said counterflows should not allowed especially in roads considered “one-way zones” as this is illegal and punishable under Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation Law of the Philippines.
Not only is it illegal, Pangue also said, but vehicles doing counterflows can cause traffic congestions, especially in intersections and this may result in accidents and cause damage to property or loss of lives.
He said only vehicles like ambulance, police cars and fire trucks will be allowed to do counterflows, but only during emergency situations or while to crime and fire incidents.
TMU, in coordination with the Land Transportation Office and the Negros Occidental High Way Patrol groups, will confiscate the drivers’ license of those who defy the “no counter flow” order of the president, Pangue said.
As to the campaign against the unauthorized use of sirens and blinkers, Pangue said they will help the high way patrol group arrest those caught installing them on their vehicles.
Highway Patrol Group chief, Senior Police Officer 4 Wilfredo Silva, said that at least six blinkers and a siren were seized by their group in Bacolod City after the president declared a ban on the unauthorized use of these devices in vehicle.
Pangue said that, aside from the TMU and the high way patrol group, the Public Safety Management Company of BCPO and the Station commanders have also been tasked to run after the illegal use of sirens and blinkers.*APN

Sexagenarian
found dead
The body of a male sexagenarian was found in the rest room of his residence in Brgy. Estefania Monday night.
Ruben Arcedes, 61, of East Homes Subdivision, Brgy. Estefania was found at about 7:30 p.m. by his neighbor Pastor Noel Lanuza who noted that he had not gone out of the house since Sunday, case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Rommel Parcon said yesterday.
Parcon said Arcedes had been alone in the house since Sunday as his children and wife went to Manapla town, Negros Occidental. He added that, based on their investigation, Arcedes was suffering from a heart ailment.
“There were no visible wounds on his body and he might have died after an attack,” Parcon said.
He also said Arcedes’ family will no longer have his body autopsied as they believe that there was no foul play behind his death.
Meanwhile, the body of a man discovered by residents of Silla Maria Reina Subdivision in Purok Kasilingan, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City at about 6 a.m. Monday was finally identified yesterday to be that of Estiban Opsima, 43, of Villa Angeles Subdivision, Brgy. Vista Alegre, in the city.
Opsima was identified by his nephew, Joven Sediolano, at the St. Peter Memorial Chapels in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod, Monday afternoon when they saw on television the news about the discovery of a man’s body, Police Officer 2 Arnold Buenafe of Police Station 7 said yesterday.
