Alex, Neric bare
plans for Negros

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Liberal Party senatorial candidates Alex Lacson and Neric Acosta yesterday bared their plans for Negros Occidental if elected in the May polls.

Acosta, a three-term congressman from Bukidnon and a staunch environment advocate, said he wants to ensure the protection of Western Visayas’ ecology.

Mt. Kanlaon in Negros is one of the hottest hotspots for biodiversity in the world with its rich flora and fauna, he said.

“It is under severe threat and I will make sure it is protected,” he said.

Acosta said he helped write the environment agenda of LP standard bearer Benigno Aquino III, stressing that if the forest is not protected there will be no watersheds, no water for rice and agriculture, and thus no food for people.

Lacson, who is from Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, said  the biggest problem of the country is lack of jobs and he will focus his energy, talent and time on that to create the needed opportunities.

He pointed out that 90 percent of Negros Occidental’s economy depends on sugar, but there are no factories for producing candies.

He said he will push for the creation of factories in Negros that will produce products from sugar to create more jobs.

Lacson said he will also fight for better education for the youth and against graft and corruption.

Lacson said he will join Aquino on the first day of the campaign period in Tarlac today, but will launch his own campaign tomorrow in his hometown of Kabankalan.

There will be a small breakfast, mass and motorcade, and visits to several areas in the sixth and fifth districts, he said.*CPG
