Police seize
charcoal in Silay

A combined team from the police and personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources simultaneously raided Wednesday two houses in Sitio Tayap, Brgy. Patag, Silay City, for alleged violation of PD 705, or the Forestry Code of the Philippines.

The Silay police, Bacolod Community Environment and Natural Resources Office personnel and 6th Regional Public Safety Management Battalion raided the houses of Rosalie Catalan and Patrocinio Sombe in the barangay, by virtue of arrest warrants issued by Judge Felipe Banzon.

Supt. Jerry Bartolome, Silay police chief, said 21 sacks of charcoal were taken from the residence of Catalan, and 29 more sacks from the house of Sombe.

Catalan and Sombe, however, were not present during the simultaneous raids at their residences, witnessed by Patag barangay officials Ronelo Blancaflor, Ely Pancho and Ronilo Banyuanga.

Last week, seven suspected timber poachers were also arrested by Bantay Bukid Brigade members in Brgy. San Isidro, E.B. Magalona, police said.*GPB
