Some festivals pay tribute to the fields. Others to the mountains and the animals that make farm life practical and convenient. Or the tribes and their practices that connect the historical past of places and people.

This one is a celebration of the bounty of the waters, particularly crabs and other products. The historic southern town of Ilog held its annual Kisi-kisi Festival Tuesday last week with 15 groups participating and paying tribute to the main source of livelihood of the townsfolk – fish and other marine products. The participating groups showcased not only the colors of the sea but also rhythm representing the sea products’ movements as they are hauled from the waters during the harvest. Shells, fish nets, bamboo poles, fish baskets and shells were among the accessories used to highlight the performers’ costumes and props.

Topping the competition were the performers of Barangays of Vista Alegre, Bocana and Dancalan, who clinched the three tops slots. Bocana also won the choreography prize.

Consolation awards were presented to Barangaysc1, 2, 5 and 6,   Tabu, Calubang, Consuelo, Galisia, Andulawan and Manalad which  shared the special prize for best in costume. Barangay 1 was declared the most disciplined group.
