A day after Valentine's Day, some students recollected their thoughts to describe their activities the day before. StarLife compiled their accounts in this week's YOUNG LIVES feature.

Love with a Fee

Very early in the morning of Feb.14, I woke up excitedly because our Supreme Student Government organization put up a valentine's booth. From 8 a.m. to 5:30 0 p.m., we facilitated our fund-raising activity. We sold c hocovron – a polvoron coated with milk and chocolate. We also sold different Valentine's Day-inspired stuff like, “Heart mo, Heart ko”, where half of the heart-shaped cartolina was placed on your chest while the other half was given to your significant someone.

There was also a manifesto style where students would write a note on a paper provided then it was posted in our Valentines Bulletin Board. We also offered a “Kiss Mark” obtained by stamping it on one's face. We sold Valentine Card with a special delivery just within the school. Most of all, we had a ‘Sweet escape' where a couple was chained with a ribbon on one hand of the girl and one hand of the boy for P5an hour. What's funny about it was it was their classmates who set them up and paid the fees.

Personally, I enjoyed watching my schoolmates enjoying the celebration of Valentine's Day, especially with the stereo playing love songs for everybody.

Special Day

This year, Valentine's Day was very different from what I've known and experienced. Many unexpected things happened that made my day of the hearts memorable.

Waking up about 6:15 a.m looked at the window and said to myself, “Everything seems usual as before.” Greetings, smiles, nothing seems so unusual until that time came. Well, I didn't know how to describe what exactly happened but one thing I remembered, I just came out of the door, smiled and received that special white roses from a guy whom I never expected to give me those. All I could say was just a simple “thank you” but that came from my heart. Wow, what a day! Just then, I felt the Valentine's breeze everywhere.

Well, life was really unpredictable and unexpected. We all know it, don't we? Actually I didn't really knew how to express what I felt that day especially when we talked with the guy who gave me those roses. I didn't know…it's just unexplainable, the kind of thing I never expected.

It was really different from the past years because someone showed and gave me the chance to feel it, realizing that love was everywhere, even in the air.

My Sweet Escape

I had only P40 in my pocket that day — not enough even to buy a box of chocolates. What a ‘great' start. This Feb. 14 day came again as the last chapter of this high school life of mine. I thought it would just been ordinary day but as the day was about to end I found out I was wrong. I never thought that I would still find this unexplainable feeling and immeasurable joy from within.

It started with that breathtaking smile of the most exceptional girl I have ever seen on campus. Her smile captivated me and captured my attention. It was like she's pulling eyes towards the purity of her beauty and my ears for the spectacular voice of hers that calms every single second at that very moment of my existence.

If you're curious about my Valentine's escapade, it started with a five-peso worth ribbon. It was a fund-raising project of the Supreme Student Government. A girl approached me with a ribbon in her hand and my crush on the other hand. Well, I don't know who paid the P5 and made it P25 but who cares? As long as I was happy to be tied with an angel for two hours and 30 minutes.

People say that your P100 won't go far but for me, it surely did go a long way. If I pay it for the booth, I'll be tied to a sweet angel for about 600 minutes, or 10 hours. Now you see how important a P5 coin could be. Now, I realize that Feb. 14 can, indeed, be an extraordinary Valentines Day, especially for me.

Ordinary Day

Another ordinary day for me. I never realized it was Valentine's Day until I saw the flower vendors near the school gate. As I entered the campus, there was a couple of students around, with heart-shaped balloons and cards, and, of course, flowers. It was funny how late I noticed the celebration of heart's day! Love was really in the air, even if, I didn't have any date or boyfriends, still I was contented with my friends and being. No attachment, no commitment, no pain.

I received greeting, hugs and kisses before our classes started. I also accepted some letters and other items from my classmates, and friends. Others gave me ball pen, ice cream instead of flowers and chocolates, which I really found to be unusual or unique. I thought the coldness of the air would mean a lonely day, but most of the people I knew greeted, hugged and gave me the sweetest smile. I was really glad to know that I mean something to them. I also made some greeting cards for my friends in return.

It's nice to be single. You still get ready hug of comforts, smiles that brighten everyone's day and greetings that can make worry slip away.

Why do people need to wait a certain season to be cheerful and nice to others if we can do it everyday? The essence of Valentine's Day is not on how many flowers, chocolates, letters, balloons or gifts you might receive, but on how sincere and truthful a person is in showing his or her love and care.

How Could I Tell Her?

“Love really conquers all!”. Valentine's Day was my most remarkable moment in school. It gave me the chance to tell this special girl how much I love her and how much I care for her.

After the flag ceremony, my eyes were searching for her but nervousness threatened me. One of my classmates told me that I should go to the room and I should give her the card and the white rose after our friend would give us the signal. I went for the hunt. I was very shy and I did not know what to do when she was in front of me. I couldn't make a move. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't hear what she was saying and for that sudden moment in time, my world stopped in front of her. I gave the flower and the card and greeted her “Happy Valentine's Day.” She smiled at me and what I heared we the shouts of her classmates and mine as well. I couldn't explain what I was feeling, it seemed that I was surrounded by clouds while lying on an angel's lap.

I'm so lucky because that even if it's only a few months that I've known her, I had finally found the girl who can brighten my day, a girl I really find irresistible. Wheew!
