Meet the boys who will represent Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa in Puerto Princesa on April 20-26. They are the regional elementary boys’ volleyball champion in the mid-March regional Palaro in San Jose, Antique. They are pupils of the Queen of Peace School at Airport Subdivision in  Bacolod City.

The QPS volleyball team played in the regional Palaro for the first time this year as representatives of NOPSSCEA and Negros Occidental in the Antique Palaro.  The QPS boys first trounced their hosts, 25-8, 25-13 and drubbed Guimaras, 25-4, 25-11 prior to their encounter with Iloilo which they won, 25-11, 25-14, for the twice-to-beat advantage in the championship game.

Team Skipper Warren Lewis Catipay, who is the sports writer of the QPS pupil pyblication,  said they  clinched the title via a 25-6, 25-17 demolition of Iloilo which edged Aklan, 25-23, 25-22, enroute to the titular match. Catipay was named MVP with teammates Marvin Cabanag taking the Best Blocker Award,  while Paolo Tacorda, a reinforcement from F.R. Flores Elementary School was awarded the Best Spiker title and Christian Prieto, the tournament Libero. Tacorda’s F.R. Flores teammate, Jan Paul Anig-ig, was also a member of the champion team.

The QPS team to Puerto Princesa will be led by Sr. Lumen Gudes, Mother Directress Sr. Ma. Minviluz Lopez Buntag  and Coach Reylin Verayo. The players share their interests and the lessons they learned from playing volleyball in their write-ups below.
