It was a day of learning and fun for 50 grade school pupils of Bago City Elementary School Monday last week when they were treated to an educational trip by the International Friendship Club of Negros Island.

The activity was supported by the local government with three councilors joining the children at Palmas del Mar in Bacolod City , the last of the two stops of the tour.

School Principal and some of his teachers joined the trip that first brought the children to the OISCA Silk Farm in Brgy. Tabunan where they learned the process of producing silk through worms.

The young visitors toured the silk farm plant after a briefing that including a slide presentation.

They proceeded to Palmas del Mar in Bacolod City where the school children took a mental trip to two European countries and learned about their cultures through in a sharing session and informative materials distributed after lunch. Providing the pupils with insights about their respective countries were Jan Bertrand, a Netherlands national, and Raymond Stoffel from Luxembourg , who are the IFCONI president and vice-president. respectively.

Bertrand stressed to his young audience of the importance of learning about other places and people as Stoffel reiterated the need for them to do their share in the building of their community by studying hard and becoming productive citizens.

Joining the discussion group were IFCONI members Gloria Fisher, a Filipina married to an American, and Vic Pais.

The children took turns in asking questions and took notes of the details shared with them by their hosts. It was a nice activity, Stoffel said, as we encouraged the children to develop the habit of speaking and asking questions. They later played in the resort before returning to their home city at the end of the day.
