Bleeding disorders talk set

Project Share founder Laurie Kelley, an expert on hemophilia or bleeding disorders, will give a talk called “Understanding Bleeding Disorders,” Saturday noon at the Little Children of the Philippines, Claytown, Daro, Dumaguete City, a press release from organizers said.

Kelley will discuss bleeding disorders that remain as one of the most misunderstood, if not neglected, inherited disorders in the Philippines. Symptoms of rare bleeding disorders may include nose bleeding, hematoma, bruises, gum bleeding,  heavy menstruation,  and profuse bleeding

The press release also said that very few hospitals have the capability to handle bleeding disorders properly. Bleeders are often misdiagnosed primarily because of lack of knowledge of many health practitioners.

On the other hand, many bleeders suffer in silence either because they are unaware of the symptoms of their disease, unable to afford proper treatment, or lack the means to be properly diagnosed, the press release added.*
