Two killed,
2 injured in mishaps

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Two motorists died, and two were injured, in vehicular accidents in Murcia and Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Thursday night.

Police records show that Tortillano Legaspi, 39, and Jolito Francisco, 56, were declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional  Hospital and Sanitarium Hospital in Bacolod City, after the Honda motorcycle they were riding on slammed into the rear of a cargo truck parked along the highway of Hacienda Tupaz, in Brgy. Salvacion, Murcia, at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

The driver of the cargo truck identified as Albert Lorico,55, who immediately surrendered to the Murcia Police Station, is now locked up in jail.

Initial police investigations showed that the two victims were on their way home to Brgy. Santa Cruz, Murcia, when the accident took place.

On the same night, brothers Ramon and Antonio Lucasan were also injured when the motorcycle they were riding also smashed into the rear portion of a cargo truck in Brgy. 3, Hinigaran.

The two brothers, who survived the accident, are being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Hospital in Bacolod City.

Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday reminded local chief executives in Negros Occidental to activate their respective Bantay Dalan monitoring teams, with the start of the milling season.

Zayco also called on owners of cargo trucks to remind their drivers to park their vehicles in proper places, if they suffer mechanical trouble along the highway, and set up early warning devices to avoid accidents.*GPB
