Angara backs amendment
to Constitution after 2010

ILOILO CITY – Senator Edgardo Angara yesterday said there is a need to amend some provisions of the Constitution, but he will only support the propose changes if these will take effect after 2010.

“If the proposal says it will be submitted to a plebiscite in 2010, I’m okay with it, and that any proposed changes will not take effect before 2010, I will agree with it,” Angara said at the sidelines of the Western Visayas Renewable Energy Congress at the Amigo Terrace Hotel here.

He said that barring any partisanship and any self-interest, there is really a need to amend some provisions of the 1987 Constitution.    moremoremore

facing more raps

An alleged leader of a highly-organized crime group linked to a series of robbery hold-up incidents in Negros and Rizal provinces, is facing additional charges for illegal possession of firearms, filed yesterday before the City Prosecutor’s Office of San Carlos.

This brought to two the number of similar complaints filed against arrested suspect Ivan Gamboa, according to Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief.

The court has recommended P80,000 bail for Gamboa on the first complaint of illegal possession of firearms charge filed against him by the Manapla police, in September.moremoremore

Typhoid cases
increase in La Carlota

Typhoid cases monitored in La Carlota City have increased from 21 last year to 52 this year covering the period from January 1 to November 15, records submitted to the Office of the Governor from the Provincial Health Office show.

Despite the increase of cases in La Carlota, the total number of typhoid patients admitted to different hospitals in the province had dropped from 833 last year to 738 this year as of Nov. 15.

Also registering an increase in the number of typhoid cases is Silay City with 36 this year compared to 22 last year, and Hinigaran from seven last year to 16 cases this year.moremoremore
